| Okay, for those of you who don't know where I'm working, I got a job at Kiefer School as a Teacher Assistant. Kiefer School is a special school for children who don't function in the normal public schools. We have kids from all over, smaller classes, and shorter days. Since i would love to tell you about my class, but (for obvious reasons) can not tell you names, etc, my class is as follows: R, M, J, B, C, H, N, and K. Pretty much, I'm very excited. I thought my job would be following the teacher around doing little busy work jobs, but its actually turned out a lot better than that. I teach Reading and Phonics, I read aloud to them, take them on recess and to computer lab, and its nice. I'm really happy with Reading and Phonics. My teacher said that i could use whatever methods I thought taught the kids well... i looked at our reading books and (even though I am a good reader) those almost put me to sleep. I decided that any one of sound mind would not want to read these. And anyone of not sound mind -- sadly, some of the kids in my class -- would really not want to read these. So, after talking to the teacher, I am proud to say that I am teaching my class reading and phonics out of the following book:
They like the book. I like the book. There are pictures and there are big words to sound out and small words to read through. Overall, this is an excellent book. Plus, one of our new vocab words this week gets to be "Underpants". So yes, the days are long. Yes, the kids are difficult. But this may very well be the greatest, most fun job I have ever had. More stories to come. ~ Princess Adrienne [they couldn't get "Adrienne", so I told them that I would also answer to "Princess". They now call me "Princess Adrienne"] |
